Revival of the Baranagar–Barrackpore Metro corridor along BT Road has sparked fresh real estate interest between Shyambazar, Baranagar, Sodepur, Khardah, Titagarh and Barrackpore. Developers said land prices have immediately appreciated by 30%. They expect prices to rise similarly once work begins on the Pink Line, as happened along the Tollygunge–New Garia belt in the early 2000s.

An electric transformer caught fire inside a power utility building in Sodepur, on Kolkata’s northern outskirts. Five fire tenders were sent to the scene. No casualties were reported.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation Municipal Commissioner Smita Pandey issued a no-objection certificate to close a 48-inch water transmission line along Barrackpore Trunk Road. The road runs above six water-supply pipelines, 42 to 72 inches in diameter; utility management had held up the elevated 12.5-km line, sanctioned in 2009. KMC also approved a new 72-inch pipeline from the Indira Gandhi Water Treatment Plant in Palta to Talla Pumping Station.

Kolkata Metro recently floated a ₹1,587.3-crore tender for the viaduct and 10 stations. The Pink Line, or Line 5, is planned with 11 stations: Baranagar, Kamarhati (Krishna Kali), Agarpara (Acharya Prafulla Chandra), Panihati (Sarat Chandra), Sodepur (Gandhi Ashram), Subhash Nagar (Sukchar), Khardaha (Rishi Bankim), Tata Gate (Dr Rajendra Prasad), Titagarh (Shah Nawaz Khan), Talpukur (Anukul Thakur) and Barrackpore (Mangal Pandey terminal). It will connect to the Blue Line at Baranagar. The Baranagar terminal is already operational on the Blue Line.

PM Modi inaugurated key stretches of Green, Orange, and Yellow metro lines on August 22. Three new stretches: Sealdah to Esplanade (2.45 km), Noapara to Jaihind Bimanbandar (6.77 km), and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata (4.39 km).

Green Line connects Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector 5, linking Howrah railway station with IT hub. Expected to significantly cut travel time and boost residential demand in Salt Lake, New Town, and nearby areas.

Orange Line runs from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay at Ruby Crossing to Beleghata, enhancing connectivity in southern and eastern regions along EM Bypass.

Yellow Line covers 6.77 km with four stations: Noapara, Dum Dum Cantonment, Jessore Road, and Jai Hind Bimanbandar. Provides first direct metro link to airport.

Experts predict 5% property value rise in eastern and southern regions short to long term. Within 2–3 km radius of metro stations, strong development activity expected. Howrah new east–west link covers about 20 km in 12 minutes, expected to make adjoining localities within 3–4 km more accessible.

Airport zone: Kaikhali, Jessore Road, and adjoining areas have significant land parcels. Property prices range ₹1–2 crore, some projects under ₹1 crore.

Howrah: Premium residential projects like Ganga Riverfront priced ₹2–3 crore; properties away from riverfront around ₹1 crore.

Peripheral areas including Sodepur, Kamarhati, and Titagarh expected to be impacted. Many former industrial sites available for housing and commercial development.
