Shivaji Nagar Metro Station is an upcoming underground station on the Pink Line of Bengaluru metro, currently under construction. The station is named after the Shivajinagar area, surrounded by Commercial Street, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, and St. Mary's Basilica.

On Monday, while participating in annual feast celebrations at St. Mary's Basilica, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah promised to rename the station after St. Mary.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the proposal, stating "I strongly condemn the decision to rename Shivaji Nagar station as St. Mary station" and accusing the Karnataka CM of insulting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and attempting to "set up an alternative religious system and to draw a wedge between communities."

Shiv Sena UBT, a Congress ally, also appealed to the Karnataka CM to reconsider, with spokesperson Anand Dubey saying "History will not forgive you if you rename the station." He urged keeping the name after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and stated the matter concerns Maharashtra's sentiments and self-respect.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), responsible for implementing and operating the metro network, has not issued an official statement regarding the proposal.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced during the annual feast at St Mary's Basilica on September 7 that the state government would "positively consider" renaming Shivaji Nagar metro station after St Mary, a proposal made by Archbishop Peter Machado. The move has not been formalised and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has not issued an official statement. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar backed the proposal, saying "We have just discussed it. I think there is a request. There is nothing wrong with a request. We will take up a call on that." The Chief Minister has not clarified the process or timeline, nor confirmed whether formal consultation with BMRCL or relevant authorities has occurred. No official steps have been initiated as of the report date.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) construction work near Shivaji Circle and Jyothi Cafe will close one side of the road for all vehicular movement for 30 days starting November 11.

Residents along Bannerghatta Road symbolically inaugurated the Bengaluru Metro Pink Line on September 28, demanding an early opening. BMRCL missed its September-end target for the 7.5-km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere and is awaiting inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety.

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda inspected the corridor on September 2 and said civil and elevated works were ready. He had said the stretch could open after required Centre approvals. The target had previously been August 15, 2026. The remaining underground section, between Tavarekere and Nagawara, was expected to be completed by March 2027.

The Pink Line is 21.3 km long, with 7.5 km elevated and 13.8 km underground. Its underground section will connect Dairy Circle, M.G. Road, Shivajinagar and Tannery Road, providing a north-south link through central Bengaluru.

Ibrahim Saheb Street in Shivajinagar has recovered after two years of infrastructure work that caused dust clouds, road damage, and waterlogging. The street is now back to normal activity.
