Residents along Bannerghatta Road symbolically inaugurated the Bengaluru Metro Pink Line on September 28, demanding an early opening. BMRCL missed its September-end target for the 7.5-km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere and is awaiting inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety.

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda inspected the corridor on September 2 and said civil and elevated works were ready. He had said the stretch could open after required Centre approvals. The target had previously been August 15, 2026. The remaining underground section, between Tavarekere and Nagawara, was expected to be completed by March 2027.

The Pink Line is 21.3 km long, with 7.5 km elevated and 13.8 km underground. Its underground section will connect Dairy Circle, M.G. Road, Shivajinagar and Tannery Road, providing a north-south link through central Bengaluru.

Railway Board provisionally approved six-coach BEML trains for the 7.5-km Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere elevated section. Trains may run at 80 kmph with the secondary air spring inflated and 49 kmph when deflated, under GoA2 semi-automatic operation; driverless operation requires separate approval after Unattended Train Management System capability testing and independent assessment of risks.

BMRCL submitted documents to CMRS Southern Circle commissioner V. Venkatasubramanian on Wednesday. The statutory safety inspection was expected by September-end; passenger service also requires government approvals. BMRCL plans six trains, every six minutes at peak and every 10 minutes off-peak. The signalling system has received Independent Safety Assessor certification. Jayadeva Hospital station will interchange with the operational Yellow Line.

The elevated section was previously targeted for May–June 2026, August 15 and September, after earlier overall Pink Line targets of 2020 and December 2025. The full 21.25-km line from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara will have 18 stations, including about 13.76 km underground, serving MG Road and Pottery Town; the southern section serves IIM Bangalore, JP Nagar and Hulimavu.

The Bengaluru Airport Metro Blue Line is 75% complete. Namma Metro Managing Director P C Jaffer and airport officials met for 1.5 hours to address delays and assign pending work. Officials set a three-month deadline; Jaffer and BIAL Managing Director Hari Marar will review progress in the first week of December. Trial runs could begin next year.

The journey from MG Road to Kempegowda International Airport is expected to take about 45 minutes. The route includes Central Silk Board, HSR Layout, Marathahalli, Iblur, KR Puram, Nagawara and Hebbal, and is being built in two phases. Two airport stations are planned, near the cargo terminal and Terminal 2.

BIAL will build airport station buildings and provide CCTV and check-in and check-out infrastructure. BMRCL will build tracks, signalling and communications, and construct stations outside the airport. Pending major works include the Yelahanka railway crossing; heavy traffic has delayed the KR Puram–Hebbal stretch. Civil works at the KR Puram and Central Silk Board junctions are complete. The Blue Line and Kalena Agrahara–Nagawara Pink Line are expected to connect.

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Purple Line, built by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), links Whitefield (Kadugodi) and Challaghatta. Full operations began in October 2023. The east–west route connects eastern IT zones with western residential and institutional areas, business and government districts, and the central business district. The trip takes about 80 minutes, depending on service frequency; underground sections serve central areas and elevated sections the outer regions.

Purple Line construction began in 2007. The first service, between Baiyappanahalli and MG Road, started in 2011; Phase 1 was completed in 2017. The Mysuru Road–Kengeri extension opened in 2021, and KR Puram–Whitefield and Kengeri–Challaghatta extensions were completed in 2023.

The route connects with other metro lines, suburban rail and bus terminals. Maps and digital services are available through the Namma Metro app and QR access at station exits. Facilities include CCTV, emergency response, QR ticketing and smart cards. The app supports route planning, fare estimates, ticket booking and card recharges. BMRCL fares are distance-based.
