Sector 15A Residents Challenge Temple Allotment in Vrindavan Park

Sixty Sector 15A residents have petitioned the Allahabad High Court to quash a Noida Authority allotment for a temple in Vrindavan Park.

Scores of Sector 15A residents protested on Sunday against the Uttar Pradesh government’s proposed allotment of part of Vrindavan Park for a temple, citing concerns about tree felling and disruption to neighbourhood life. The allotment is at a preliminary stage.

The plot is a little over 300 square metres and valued at about ₹2.8 crore. Sixty residents have petitioned the Allahabad High Court to quash the Noida Authority notification and protect the park in the public interest. The notification was issued on February 5.

Some residents alleged that former Union minister and BJP leader Mahesh Sharma was pushing the project and was connected to a trust participating in the allotment process. Sharma did not respond to interview requests. Residents also expressed concern that construction could set a precedent for other religious structures. The residents’ welfare association president said the matter concerned the Noida Authority and that differences among neighbours were resolved.
