Delhi Development Authority carried out demolition in Sainik Farm on Thursday with Delhi Police and forest officials to secure government land and enhance the green area of Tilapth Valley Biodiversity Park by removing unauthorised constructions.

Demolition activities undertaken on land under Khasra Nos. 580 in Village Maidangarhi under Tilapth Valley Biodiversity Park. Around 70% of affected area (about 83 acres) was recovered. About 12 acres of land comprising 23 farmhouses were demolished.

Approximately 3 acres involving 7 farmhouses could not be cleared due to active judicial stay orders issued by the High Court.

According to Resident Welfare Association, the drive targeted two residential plots on Western Avenue. President Hardeep Singh Bhalla said the action was illegal and carried out at 5 am despite High Court stay order.

Property owner Aadil Sherwani claimed the action was taken while the matter was pending before Delhi High Court.

On December 5, 2025, nine properties in Tilpath Valley area were identified for demolition's first phase; five properties including two fully built farmhouses were removed, reclaiming about four acres. Sherwani's property was not demolished that day per court directions. However, the court did not grant any stay at the December 10, 2025 hearing. The demolition of Sherwani's property, over half an acre, was scheduled for December 12 and carried out at 7 a.m.

Delhi High Court bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela heard pleas on Sainik Farm colony regularisation, including one filed in 2015. The court found neither demolition nor legalisation had occurred and directed the Centre, Delhi government, and MCD to sit together and decide policy: either regularise the colony or don't, but stop delaying. The court said it could not permit ongoing repairs without sanction but noted the houses allegedly came up in violation of law and authorities must decide. A policy could be framed, regulations amended, or development charges collected if there was will. Centre's counsel said the status quo should continue as Sainik Farm is an affluent neighbourhood and neither repairs nor demolition could be permitted. The Centre stated in affidavit it took a conscious decision not to regularise illegal affluent colonies like Sainik Farm and is focusing on redevelopment of 1,797 unauthorised colonies in two classes. Constructions in affluent colonies like Sainik Farm are protected by law until December 2023. The court posted the next hearing for April 16 and asked authorities to seek instructions on the matter.
