A ₹16-crore bridge at Nanda Ki Chowki remained structurally sound after its approach road subsided 17 days after opening, disrupting highway traffic.

The approach road to the ₹16-crore Nanda Ki Chowki bridge subsided after heavy overnight rain, 17 days after the bridge opened to traffic on July 12. PWD secretary Pankaj Pandey said the bridge itself was undamaged; preliminary findings suggest water diverted toward the approach, washing away soil and RMC beneath the surface. The collapse cut the Dehradun–Paonta Sahib Highway link and disrupted traffic between Dehradun, Vikasnagar and Himachal Pradesh. Vehicles were diverted via Jhajhra. Temporary repairs were later completed and traffic restored; high water levels in the Tons River had delayed safe soil filling. Irrigation officials were deployed to manage river flow. District magistrate Ashish Chauhan ordered action if construction or execution lapses are established. The Dehradun regional chief engineer must submit a preliminary report identifying the cause and those responsible within three days. The bridge replaced one washed away in September last year, killing 14 people; it had missed its April 30 deadline.

Residents and shopkeepers say conditions have worsened over recent months. Narayan Singh Rawat, who runs a pharmacy in Kishan Nagar, said traffic management is at its worst in decades.
