Pimpri Dairy Farm Flyover Faces Fourth Deadline After Three Extensions

PCMC has ordered completion of the delayed Dairy Farm railway flyover by August 31, freezing price escalation and imposing a daily penalty from September 1.

The 1,290-metre-long, 17.20-metre-wide flyover on Pimpri Dairy Farm Road was approved for ₹65.28 crore; its work order was issued on March 31, 2023. The original March 31, 2025 deadline was missed, with about 60% of work completed in 24 months. Extensions ran to November 30, 2025, April 30, 2026, and then three more months. PCMC has now directed the contractor to finish by August 31, 2026. Price escalation is frozen; failure to meet the deadline will incur a ₹1,000-per-day penalty from September 1. PCMC cited obstructing trees and Union Railway Department permissions; rain is also limiting work. The flyover will link Pimpri with the old Mumbai-Pune Highway, ease congestion at the railway crossing and allow its permanent closure. The route serves Pimple Gurav, Pimple Saudagar, Rahatani and Pimpri Camp. Residents Vijeta Mali and Priya Chaudhari criticised the prolonged closure and urged quick completion.

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation unveiled a revised 45.3-kilometre Nigdi-Chakan metro corridor with 34 stations costing Rs 12,937 crore, passing through Bhosari and other areas.

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) unveiled a revised plan for the Bhakti-Shakti to Chakan Metro corridor, expanding the route to 45.295 kilometres with 34 stations at an estimated cost of Rs 12,937.23 crore.

The line will begin at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and end at Chakan, passing through Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi, and Kurali.

At Wakad, commuters will be able to interchange with the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor.

Revised proposal includes three new stations at Landewadi, Bhosari Gaon and Bhosari Sector No. 1. Of the total 34 stations, 28 will be within Pimpri-Chinchwad, while six will fall under Chakan Municipal Council limits.

Project is the second phase of metro expansion in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Metro services currently operate between Dapodi and Pimpri. Work is underway to extend the line by 4.519 kilometres up to Bhakti-Shakti Group Sculpture Chowk in Nigdi.

The revised plan will be placed before Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's General Body Meeting, then sent to state government for clearance.
