Residents halted road relaying by Chennai Corporation in Padi Kuppam Road, ward 90, protesting inadequate milling. The 50-foot road developed by Tamil Nadu Housing Board has been reduced in width by encroachments and is maintained by Chennai Corporation. Resident Chidambara Perumal Jayyavarapu noted his house sits lower than road level due to past shoddy work, requiring three steps to reach road level. The road serves as a bus route connecting Koyambedu market to other city parts and is a residential stretch with residents including IT professionals, government employees, police, advocates and doctors. Flood risk is significant along the road. A wall-to-wall road project with proper footpaths was announced but shelved. Of 168 apartments in one residential complex, most owners have shifted. Ward 90 councillor D.S.P. Rajagopal said heavy vehicles carrying vegetables and fruits to Poonamallee High Road have damaged the road. Over 10,000 residents in the area demanded proper milling and road relaying. Chennai Corporation officials assured a meeting with residents before proceeding with road relaying.
