• The 14.99-km AIIMS–Karond route has begun commercial operations on the 6.22-km AIIMS–Subhash Nagar section; construction continues on the 8.77-km Subhash Nagar–Karond stretch.
• Relocation of 40 sawmills to Chhota Ratibad remains stalled. Bhopal has 108 sawmills; roads and plots have been developed at the relocation site, and Metro authorities have released ₹5.50 crore for the move.
• At Bada Bagh, land for the proposed underground-corridor exit after Nadra station has not been made available. Muslim groups identify the site as a royal cemetery and oppose excavation 24–30 metres deep over concerns graves could be damaged. Authorities have begun a geological survey.
• The underground project costs ₹22 lakh per day, and completion is proposed for 2028. Collector Priyank Mishra said revenue teams are inspecting the Bada Bagh site and sawmills would be shifted soon.

From July 25, Bhopal Metro will operate on both tracks between Subhash Nagar and AIIMS after the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety approved its signalling system. The service will rise to 50 daily trips in both directions, replacing the current 75-minute interval with trains every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes at other times. The first train from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS departs at 9 am; service from AIIMS also starts at 9 am. The last train from Subhash Nagar to AIIMS runs between 6:30 pm and 7 pm. Station gates open 15 minutes before the first departure.

Return tickets receive a 5% discount and group tickets a 10% discount. MPMRCL app wallet recharges earn bonuses of 8% for ₹200–499, 10% for ₹500–999, 12% for ₹1,000–1,499 and 15% for ₹1,500–2,000.

Manual ticketing is available at Subhash Nagar, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Board Office, MP Nagar, Rani Kamalapati, DRM Office, Alkapuri and AIIMS stations. The signalling work is part of the first phase of an approximately ₹800-crore tender covering about 30 km.

Bhopal Metro expects to activate Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling by May on the seven-kilometre Orange Line priority corridor between AIIMS and Subhash Nagar, which has eight stations. The journey is expected to fall from about 25 minutes to 16, saving around nine minutes per trip. The system will allow trains to run faster and closer together while maintaining safe distances, reducing waiting times and human intervention.

Services were reduced from 13 trips in January to nine during signalling upgrades and safety checks. Metro management says the cut is temporary and frequency will increase after activation. Current operations run from 11 am to 4:30 pm, with nine trips—five in one direction and four in the other—and intervals of about 75 minutes. Average ridership is about 1,500 on weekends and 300 on working days.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated Bhopal’s first metro service on a roughly 7-km elevated corridor with eight stations: Subhash Nagar, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Board Office, MP Nagar, Rani Kamlapati, DRM Office, Alkapuri and AIIMS.

The corridor is part of the planned 30-km Orange Line between Karond Circle and AIIMS. The first phase comprises the Orange Line and a Blue Line between Bhadbhada Crossing and Ratnagiri Trisquare, expected to be completed over the next two years. Bhopal is India’s 26th city with an operational metro network and Madhya Pradesh’s second, after Indore’s service began on May 31.

Khattar said a planned 7-km Indore metro stretch will be underground. He also unveiled 262 Madhya Pradesh urban development projects worth ₹8,500 crore and the Bhopal Metropolitan Region blueprint. The region is planned to cover 12 urban areas and 2,500 villages across 12,019 sq km, 30 tehsils and six districts: Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram and Vidisha. A regional development authority has been formed; a transportation authority is planned.
