• A part of the main road in Bhopal’s MP Nagar collapsed on Thursday during heavy rain.
• No passerby was present, preventing a major accident and possible loss of life and property.
• Eyewitnesses said the road carries thousands of people every day.
• Congress leaders reached the spot and protested, alleging negligence and corruption by the administration.
• MP Nagar SDM Laxmikant Khare said preliminary findings indicate a drain beneath the road, and rain caused the soil to slip.
• The sunken portion is about 8 to 9 feet deep, 3 meters long and 1.5 meters wide.
• Authorities barricaded the area immediately and ordered repairs.
• Khare said the road came under the PWD from the CPA in 2002.
• The matter will be investigated, and strict action will be taken if any officer is found negligent.

Bhopal Traffic Police restrictions will run from 9 am until Amit Shah’s October 3 programme at BHEL Dussehra Ground ends. Heavy traffic is expected near Govindpura Turning, Anna Nagar T-junction, Career College, Sadbhavana Square, BHEL Gate No. 6, Mahatma Gandhi Square and Security Line Square. Goods, heavy, commercial and other restricted vehicles will be barred from surrounding roads.

Chetak Bridge/Govindpura–Mahatma Gandhi Square: Sanchi Dairy–Kasturba Hospital–Gulab Udyan Road–Barkheda Market. Awadhpuri–MP Nagar: behind St Xavier’s School–Barkheda Market–AIIMS. ITI T-junction–Chetak Bridge/ISBT: Security Line Square–Sanvatika Petrol Pump.
• Event buses from Sehore, Phanda, Khajuri; Rajgarh/Biaora, Parvalia; Vidisha, Sukhi Sevania; Raisen; and Harda, Narmadapuram will follow designated routes via BHEL Gate No. 6 and park at Jamboree Ground. Buses via Prabhat Square/ITI will drop at Hem School and park at CISF Ground; those via Board Office–Chetak Bridge–Anna Nagar will drop at Hem School and park opposite Jawaharlal Nehru School or Security Line Colony ground.
• Regular buses from Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Betul, Sagar, Chhatarpur and Damoh may reach ISBT but cannot continue to Nadra Bus Stand. Indore/Ujjain buses terminate at Halalpur; Guna/Rajgarh/Biaora buses may reach Halalpur but cannot continue from Lalghati into the city.

• The Madhya Pradesh government released Bhopal’s draft Development Plan-2047, the first new plan in more than two decades; the 1995 plan was intended to run until 2005. It plans for a population of around 45 lakh.
• Of the 1,01,690-hectare investment region, 61,017 hectares (60%) are proposed for urban uses and 40,673 hectares for water bodies, agriculture and other uses. Green and eco-sensitive zones cover 27%; 3,289.94 hectares are for parks, sports grounds, gardens, lakefronts, urban forests and afforestation. Around 10% is recommended for mixed-use recreation.
• Residential use covers 26,240 hectares (43% of planned urban land), divided into existing, proposed, limited-density, future and highly environment-sensitive zones. Limited-density areas include VIP areas, Arera Colony, Chunabhatti, Shyamla Hills, Vijay Nagar, Char Imli and Gandhi Nagar. A new system allows residential and commercial activity in the same zone.
• Commercial zones include MP Nagar, New Market and Misrod; MP Nagar permits redevelopment of old buildings at higher FAR. Shops, offices and housing are allowed in mixed-use areas.
• A 51-km corridor across about 3,000 hectares would connect proposed Education Knowledge Artificial Intelligence (EKAI) City at Bhauri, the airport, commercial areas, logistics and wholesale hubs, and suburbs. It would include housing, hotels, hospitals, IT and AI facilities, data centres, malls, offices and educational institutions. BRTS is proposed initially, with possible later conversion to MRTS; links would connect roads toward Vidisha, Raisen, Narmadapuram and Indore.
• Development Plan roads would increase from 515.78 km to 795.61 km. Roads toward Narmadapuram, Raisen, Berasia, Vidisha and Bilkisganj would be 60 metres wide outside the urban area and 45 metres within it; Kolar Road would be 45 metres and Chiklod Road 30 metres.
• Metro would expand from 27.8 km to 95.82 km, with Transit-Oriented Development zones extending 500 metres on both sides of existing and future lines. Upper Lake (Bhojtal) is divided into BIZ-0, BIZ-1 and BIZ-2; a 1,791.84-hectare eco-sensitive zone is proposed around Ratapani Sanctuary.

Bhopal’s Maida Mill–Ganesh Mandir stretch has developed deep craters, peeling road surfaces and uneven patches after heavy monsoon showers, disrupting commuters. The route passes Board Office Square and Rani Kamlapati railway station, links commercial hub MP Nagar with the station, and carries heavy daily traffic. It also serves residents of Arera Colony, Habibganj, Shahpura and other residential areas along Hoshangabad Road. Officials are due to review repairs on September 21.

Bhopal City Link Limited’s (BCLL) bus fleet has declined from around 356 in 2022 to roughly 60. More than 150 buses are reportedly idle in garages, while others are unfit for regular operations. Opposition claims the decline affects nearly 1.5 lakh daily commuters and cites operator disputes, contract issues and administrative problems. Mayor Malti Rai took office on August 6, 2022; the Opposition says the BMC’s annual budgets of around ₹3,500–4,000 crore have not resolved basic-service shortcomings. It questions more than ₹15,000 crore in spending over four years and cites potholes, water-supply and sanitation problems, encroachments and traffic congestion. Housing for All projects remain stalled. Of 85 planned ward hawker corners, around 22–23 were built, with some later encroached upon. Adampur landfill has drawn criticism. Opposition leader Shabista Zaki criticised roads in MP Nagar, New Market, Karond, Arera Hills, Chowk Bazaar and the Old City, and alleged illegal colonies pay taxes without adequate civic amenities. Rai cited a 10-MW solar project in Neemuch, improved cleanliness rankings, CNG garbage vehicles and the new eight-storey BMC headquarters in Tulsi Nagar.
