New Moti Bagh awarded Anupam Colony status for waste management

NDMC recognised New Moti Bagh as its fifth Anupam Colony for achieving 100% waste segregation and self-sustaining waste management practices.
Key facts
NDMC chairman Keshav Chandra announced the recognition during an event in the colony. New Moti Bagh has established a circular waste management system processing all household waste within premises. Wet waste is treated in an organic waste converter to produce compost for parks and gardens; horticulture waste is converted to briquettes as part of a "waste-to-wealth" initiative. Dry waste is managed at an in-house Material Recovery Facility for recycling. The colony has introduced an RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centre for residents to donate reusable items and installed a plastic waste vending machine for bottle collection and recycling. Rainwater harvesting systems and a sewage treatment plant have been set up to recycle water for reuse within the complex. New Moti Bagh joins D1 and D2 Satya Sadan Officers' Flats, Bharti Nagar, Aradhana Cooperative Housing Society and Bapu Dham as previously declared Anupam Colonies. Sanitation workers and staff operating waste facilities were felicitated.
NDMC Expands Decentralised Waste Management Across Six Colonies

NDMC’s Anupam Colony programme processes segregated household and garden waste locally, with six colonies now serving as test cases for decentralised waste management.
Key facts
NDMC’s Anupam model segregates waste at source into wet, dry and sanitary waste. Dry waste is sorted into paper, metal, glass, e-waste and non-recyclables; wet and horticultural waste is composted in wire-mesh units on site. E-waste goes to authorised recyclers, compost is distributed free to residents, and surplus is used by NDMC. Segregation has risen from 60–70% to 100% in the colonies, supported by awareness drives, RWA meetings and penalties for mixed waste.
D-1, D-2 and Satya Sadan officers’ flats in Chanakyapuri were declared Anupam Colonies in June 2025. They generate about 300 kg of wet waste daily; 13 composters and 10 horticulture pits have produced around 800 kg of compost. Bapu Dham, declared in September 2025, has over 290 flats; more than 50 penalties were imposed. Recyclables earn its RWA about ₹5,000 monthly. Two composters fill in about 15 days and take 40–45 days to produce compost.
Kaka Nagar became an Anupam Colony on February 4. Its roughly 204 houses have eight sanitation workers and mechanised sweepers. NDMC may add Sarojini Vihar and West Kidwai Nagar. The six colonies also include Bharti Nagar, Aradhna Colony and New Moti Bagh.
