Indore Municipal Corporation demolished more than 140 houses in Malviya Nagar to widen a new road connecting MR-9 with LIG Link Road.

On Tuesday, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) demolished more than 140 houses in Malviya Nagar under the city’s master plan to build a road connecting MR-9 to LIG Link Road. Five JCBs and five poclain machines cleared the route for a 60-foot-wide road. Building officer Vinod Agrawal said residents had received prior notices; some dismantled parts of their homes voluntarily. Resident Dinesh Golane said his house lost about 19 feet and that he received notice in April. Lakshmi Chopra, who said her family had lived there for 50 years, said they sought 24 more hours but did not get it.

On Monday, a similar drive cleared 11 houses between Bada Ganpati and Tigriya Badshah for a 100-foot-wide road. IMC is preparing to file caveats in the High Court for 23 major road projects. Building officer Vinod Agrawal, building inspector Sachin Gehlo and the removal team carried out the operation under heavy police presence.
