A day after the first northeast monsoon rains flooded southern Chennai on Tuesday, water had receded in most affected areas by Wednesday. Waterlogging continued in Kamaraj Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur; Rajaji Nagar, Madipakkam; and Sai Balaji Nagar, Pallikaranai.

Tuesday flooding affected parts of Rajiv Gandhi Salai, including Perungudi, Karapakkam, Thoraipakkam, Perumbakkam and Sholinganallur; Ram Nagar and Kuberan Nagar in Madipakkam; Indira Nagar, Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur. Residents said the limited rainfall and time for water to clear helped prevent worse flooding. Okkiyum Maduvu and the marshland near ELCOT were packed with water hyacinth, residents said, calling for cleaning to reduce flooding in Perumbakkam, Sholinganallur and Thoraipakkam. Residents of Tambaram and Chromepet said some stormwater drains remained uncleared.

Perumbakkam Main Road had craters and potholes, while roads and service roads in Perungudi, Thoraipakkam and Sholinganallur were in poor condition. MGR Main Road, linking Velachery and Taramani to the IT Expressway and serving IT and ITES companies, had roadworks dug along both sides of its median. Roads in Ram Nagar and Kuberan Nagar were also cratered.
