Kalindi Colony Water Contamination Sickens Residents as Repairs Continue

Residents of Kalindi Colony reported contaminated water and gastrointestinal illness, while the Delhi Jal Board curtailed supply and continued investigating a pipeline fault.
Key facts
Residents of Kalindi Colony in southeast Delhi reported contaminated water and gastrointestinal illnesses over the past week. The residents’ welfare association advised against using piped water and recommended tankers or packaged water. Around 800 residents in Kalindi Colony and Maharani Bagh were affected by contamination issues.
Initial surveys indicated a fault in a pipeline from Maharani Bagh, but the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) had not located the contamination point. The DJB said network leakages had been plugged, with no significant improvement in water quality; supply was curtailed and tankers would continue until the problem was resolved. Roads were dug up during repairs.
Residents Ravi Kumar Jain, 71, said eight members of his family had gastrointestinal problems; resident Rashmi Mangla said 18 members of her household were ill. She said tanker water quality was unsatisfactory, leaving her household mostly dependent on packaged water. Maharani Bagh’s RWA president said the issue was resolved in some pockets, but not throughout the locality.
