Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced six major road infrastructure projects for Delhi-NCR will begin between October 2026 and April 2027, aimed at easing traffic congestion.

Projects include:

• Six-lane access-controlled highway linking Ring Road-Maharani Bagh with Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, providing connectivity to Noida International Airport at Jewar; project almost complete with PM Modi expected to inaugurate soon
• Three corridors connecting Urban Extension Road II (UER II) with Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and Delhi-Katra Expressway
• Three major state highways (recently taken over by NHAI) redeveloped into six-lane signal-free express connectors, construction likely to commence December: Ashram to Badarpur, Punjabi Bagh to Tikri Border, and Vasant Kunj to Faridabad
• Two-lane secondary service roads on both sides of UER II estimated to cost ₹6,400 crore to improve access to residential areas and commercial centres

UER II (NH-344M) is 75.7-km six-lane access-controlled expressway, third Ring Road, starts Alipur, passes through Rohini, Mundka, Najafgarh, Dwarka, culminates near Mahipalpur at Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

Gadkari announced inert material from sanitary landfill sites will be used instead of soil in all Delhi road projects.

The 60-km access-controlled highway connects Delhi Noida Flyway (DND)–Maharani Bagh, passes through Kalindi bypass and Faridabad-Ballabgarh bypass, and culminates at the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway. It improves connectivity to Delhi-Meerut Motorway, NH 2 (Delhi-Agra), and Jewar Airport. The corridor comprises approximately 7 km of elevated section with two level crossings at four Metro line locations, 18 new underpasses, and nine interchanges. Vertical gardens planned for all piers provide aesthetic and environmental benefits. Expected to serve as primary route for traffic between north/east Delhi and Noida/Ghaziabad. Will reduce traffic congestion in Ashram-Badarpur-Faridabad-Ballabgarh region and vehicular pollution. Maharani Bagh in southeast Delhi is defined by tree-lined roads, planned homes and green spaces framed by bougainvillea. Initially designed with only 210 plots, the colony was laid out with wide roads, dedicated service lanes and abundant green spaces. Planned to accommodate about 1,300 residents, it functioned for decades as a well-balanced and self-sustaining residential area. Long regarded as one of the capital's most upscale neighbourhoods and seen as a model of thoughtful urban planning, it retains its quiet residential character despite being located close to major arteries.

Residents of Kalindi Colony in southeast Delhi reported contaminated water and gastrointestinal illnesses over the past week. The residents’ welfare association advised against using piped water and recommended tankers or packaged water. Around 800 residents in Kalindi Colony and Maharani Bagh were affected by contamination issues.

Initial surveys indicated a fault in a pipeline from Maharani Bagh, but the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) had not located the contamination point. The DJB said network leakages had been plugged, with no significant improvement in water quality; supply was curtailed and tankers would continue until the problem was resolved. Roads were dug up during repairs.

Residents Ravi Kumar Jain, 71, said eight members of his family had gastrointestinal problems; resident Rashmi Mangla said 18 members of her household were ill. She said tanker water quality was unsatisfactory, leaving her household mostly dependent on packaged water. Maharani Bagh’s RWA president said the issue was resolved in some pockets, but not throughout the locality.
