For decades, 78 low-income families lived beside flood-prone Perandoor Canal in Kadavanthra, where toxic canal water entered their homes during monsoons. In January 2024, the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) relocated them to the newly built P&T Apartment Complex, constructed under the LIFE Mission housing project.

Parameswaran as an Independent. The twin apartments have more than 300 votes. Residents cite leaking roofs, deteriorating conditions, waste-management problems and waterlogging, and say they have received no support from their councillor since relocating.
The Kochi Corporation moved 77 families from the flood-prone P&T Colony near Perandoor Canal, Kadavanthra, to the complex built by the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) in January 2024. The apartments began leaking in February 2024.
In June, GCDA and IIT Madras agreed that the institute would study structural problems and recommend lasting solutions within four months. A July meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan set September as the expected report date, after which renovation would begin. Residents say they have received no update since September, and temporary truss work sanctioned by the district administration has not started. Kochi Corporation is to execute the work using MLA K.J. Maxy’s development funds.
