Several Kochi Corporation areas experiencing acute water scarcity for past weeks. Divisions affected: Gandhi Nagar, Vaduthala West, Vyttila, Ayyappankavu, Panampilly Nagar.

Causes: increased consumption from rising heat, power disruptions, partial collapse of Thammanam water tank last year.

Thammanam tank collapse left one chamber non-functional, preventing pressure maintenance and leaving several areas and tail ends dry.

Power disruptions affected pumping schedules. Kerala Water Authority (KWA) checking for distribution line leakages. Permanent solution only after 190 MLD plant realised.

Residents report wells drying up; tankers insufficient due to increased demand.

Panampilly Nagar: around 50% of division affected. Vaduthala West: newer areas affected, including Janakeeya Road area with thousands of houses. Poonithura (Vyttila division): close to 500 families in southern part affected, tankers cannot reach most areas. Gandhi Nagar: over 300 households affected; complaints of residents using motors to draw more water in Karshaka Road area.
