Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan laid the foundation stone for the Marine Eco City Project at Marine Drive in Kochi on 14 March 2026. The project is a major waterfront housing and development initiative with an estimated cost of Rs 480 crore.

Marine Eco City project at Marine Drive, Kochi developed by NBCC (India) as project management consultant (PMC) for Kerala State Housing Board (KSHB) on 17.9 acres of waterfront land near BPCL housing complex. NBCC implementing on EPC basis.

Phase I: 3.16 acres, ₹480 crore, 152 apartments with retail and office spaces, 85,733 sq metres built-up area including parking.

Phase II: 5-star hotel with 105 rooms and convention centre.

Phase III: 6 residential towers with 952 apartments (538 three-bedroom, 414 four-bedroom units), lower ground to 28 upper floors, 44.2 lakh sq ft combined built-up area including parking across phases II and III.

MOU signed between NBCC and Kerala State Housing Board in 2023. Project intended to add residential and hospitality capacity in Kochi.

The State government submitted to the Kerala High Court that the Sub Collector, Fort Kochi, will function as nodal officer of the Marine Drive Coordination Committee to ensure upkeep of the Marine Drive walkway. A telephone number, email address, and social media facility have been made available for complaint registration. A dedicated mobile number with WhatsApp will be taken in the Sub Collector's name within a fortnight. The High Court had ordered on April 7 that the coordination committee be constituted within four weeks while considering a contempt plea by Renjith G. Thampy of Ernakulam. There was a five-month delay in compliance. The High Court dropped the contempt jurisdiction after the State's unconditional apology.

Marine Drive Association of Stakeholders (MDASH) has opposed a reported move by authorities to relocate street vendors from Ambedkar Stadium premises to Marine Drive.
