Jawahar Nagar is a calm atmosphere. Area is surrounded by plants & trees. Bus Stop is just 300 meters. Central station & Malls are very near to the house.

A Hyderabad fact-finding report on health and pollution near Jawahar Nagar’s waste-to-energy plant has intensified opposition to a proposed facility in Kodungaiyur.

A fact-finding report by Hyderabad activists and civic groups says the Jawahar Nagar waste-to-energy (WTE) plant and adjoining landfill cause health problems and environmental degradation. Residents within 8km report foul odour and fine ash inside homes, alongside respiratory, kidney and skin ailments. The 24MW plant has operated since 2021; another plant of the same capacity is under construction. Landfill leachate contaminated nearby water bodies, and groundwater TDS measured 10,506 mg/l, 20 times the permissible limit. The report alleges pollution-control violations and fly-ash mismanagement. Residents say air and water are polluted within 10km; government flats are 215m from the landfill, against a 500m MoEFCC buffer norm.

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) officials and councillors visited the plant to study its operation before considering a similar facility at Kodungaiyur. The proposed plant, to be built by the same firm, is designed to process 2,100 tonnes of non-recyclable waste daily. Kodungaiyur’s dumpyard is within 100m of residential zones. A Kodungaiyur resident cited cadmium contamination 24 times the WHO limit at a 10-tonne facility in Manali. North Chennai residents and activists oppose the proposal.
