MCD announced Ghazipur landfill site will be completely cleared by end of 2027. Biomining currently in second phase; third phase plans prepared with tenders to be issued soon. New Waste-to-Energy plant planned at Ghazipur site.

Delhi generates 11,500 metric tonnes daily of municipal solid waste. Current four WTE plants: Narela-Bawana (1,300 TPD), Okhla (1,550 TPD), Tehkhand (2,000 TPD), Ghazipur (1,300 TPD) = 6,550 TPD capacity. Gap of 4,712 TPD dumped at Bhalswa, Okhla and Ghazipur landfill sites.

Since 2019, biomining of legacy waste at three dumpsites reclaimed: Bhalswa 25 acres, Okhla 10 acres, Singhola 7.2 acres, Narela-Bawana 10 acres.

Four new solid waste processing facilities planned: Bhalswa (1,800 TPD), Singhola (700 TPD), Okhla (1,400 TPD), Narela-Bawana (1,200 TPD). Total cost ₹361.42 crore. Expected operational within six months. Tenders invited. Aims for 100% scientific waste processing.

MCD invited bids on July 9 for a 2,000-tonne-per-day (TPD) waste-to-energy plant at Ghazipur landfill in east Delhi. Currently MCD processes 8,100 tonnes of waste at four WtE plants (Bawana 2,000 TPD, Tehkhand 2,000 TPD, Okhla 1,950 TPD, Ghazipur 1,300 TPD), while 4,360 tonnes end up at oversaturated Bhalswa and Ghazipur landfills. Two new plants planned: Narela facility (3,000 TPD, environmental clearance granted, target December 2027) and Ghazipur facility (2,000 TPD, target December 2028). Ghazipur plant: 15 acres of recovered landfill land leased to concessionaire for 27 years (2 years construction, 25 years operation). Annual lease: ₹20 lakh per acre for first 12 years, ₹25 lakh thereafter. Project cost ₹488.77 crore, operational cost ₹31.6 crore per year. Viability gap funding: ₹122 crore sought (₹151 crore already sanctioned for Narela-Bawana). Water from Kondli sewage treatment plant (3.5 km away); inerts and ash disposal within 2 km radius.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated two newly constructed two-lane slip road bridges over the Ghazipur drain and Hindon canal in Kondli, east Delhi. They are expected to reduce traffic pressure and conflicts at the main intersection, where traffic from Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and Noida converges during peak hours.

The route connects Chand Cinema Road, Ghazipur Road and Kondli Bridge, providing an alternative route and saving travel time for residents of Kondli, Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and the Ghazipur Dairy Farm Road area. Officials said it will benefit lakhs of people.

The bridges were built using 1,200-mm-diameter reinforced concrete cement cast-in-situ piles. Steel plate girders support footpaths over the drains to improve pedestrian safety. Union Minister of State and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra said infrastructure works pending for years had gained momentum.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to set up a 300 tonnes-per-day biogas plant at Ghazipur dairy farm on around five acres of land. The tender will be issued in the next few days, with the proposal placed before the House later in April 2026.

The plant is part of MCD's action plan to prevent dairy waste from reaching the Yamuna through city drains. Work includes ten biogas plants, nine wastewater treatment facilities, drainage overhaul in dairy colonies, and sedimentation chamber development.

MCD and Delhi government are collaborating with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to manage waste from dairies and cow shelters. MCD oversees 11 authorized dairy colonies in Delhi.

Operational facility: Nangali dairy biogas plant processing 200 TPD. Under construction: Goyla dairy and Ghogha dairy plants.

Proposed ten additional biogas plants at Bhalswa dairy, Masoodpur dairy, Madanpur Khadar, Sarita Vihar, Mangolpuri (Outer Ring Road), Pitampura, Sector 3 Rohini, Sagarpur, and Sri Ram Colony (Khajuri Khas), with cumulative capacity of 1400 TPD waste.
