Residents and motorists have urged authorities to replace the existing U-turn system at Edayarpalayam Junction on Thadagam Road in Coimbatore with a roundabout, citing frequent traffic congestion and confusion. The current U-turn arrangement causes delays especially during peak hours with no clear signage or traffic regulation. Vehicle users face difficulties navigating the stretch, with vehicles heading towards the city caught in congestion as others wait to take the U-turn; some drivers apply sudden brakes after missing the turn. A previous signal system at the junction was not followed properly and caused delays. The junction has sufficient space for a roundabout, though a newly-installed high-mast light at the centre would need relocation. The Highways Department's road safety wing confirmed a proposal exists to construct a roundabout as space allows. The current U-turn setup was introduced on a trial basis; a roundabout trial could also be considered. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) stated the roundabout option is under consideration and the location will be inspected for further action.
