AMC Returns ₹14.12 Crore Chenpur Lake Proposal Over Tender Questions

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee returned two Engineering Department proposals after officials failed to clarify tendering and cost questions. The Water Committee had approved both.

  • Chenpur lake, Chenpur village, Ranip ward: the Drainage Project Department tender combined garden development and civil works. Neelkanth Landscape Associate was the lowest bidder at ₹14.12 crore. Chairman Kamlesh Patel questioned the combined contract and tender process; the committee returned the proposal.
  • Chandlodia ward: pothole and damaged storm-water and drainage-line repairs were proposed in Jagatpur, Tragad, Chharodi, Nakoda and other areas. The North-West Zone Engineering Department based its estimate of around ₹1 crore on the 2009-10 Schedule of Rates. Sangam Engineers was the lowest of three contractors, quoting ₹94.51 lakh. The price bid opened in August 2025, but the proposal reached the Standing Committee later. The committee sought explanations for the delay and use of the 16-year-old rates, and returned the proposal. AMC is expected to provide further explanations and documents before both proposals are reconsidered.

Five decades after the 1973 Sabarmati floods displaced families from Nava Vanzar village, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah distributed land ownership certificates to 173 rehabilitated residents on December 28, 2025. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was present at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation event in Gandhinagar.

Shah inaugurated the Western Trunk Main Line project, a drainage initiative addressing sewage and wastewater problems in western and south-western Ahmedabad. The project involves reinforced cement concrete pipelines with diameters of 1,200 mm to 1,800 mm at an estimated cost of ₹400 crore. It will serve nearly 15 lakh residents and areas including Gota, Chandlodia, Science City, South Bopal, Bhadaj, Hebatpur, Thaltej, Bopal-Ghuma, Bodakdev, Vejalpur, Sarkhej, Maktampura, Mahmadpura, Fatehwadi, Shantipura and Sanathal.

Total civic projects inaugurated were valued at ₹330 crore. Patel said the urban development budget was increased by 40% to ₹30,000 crore and 2025 is being observed as Urban Development Year. Initiatives include Miyawaki forests and oxygen parks in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.
