The two-storeyed heritage structure served as PCB headquarters until 1988, later housed the cantonment court, and has remained vacant since June 2024. The proposal has been sent to the principal directorate, southern command, for approval by the Directorate General of Defence Estates in New Delhi. Once land use change is approved, the board will redevelop the site into a commercial complex. The property is located on one of Pune's busiest commercial stretches with high footfalls and premium real estate value. PCB generates ₹3 crore to ₹3.5 crore in revenue monthly while expenditure is close to ₹12 crore. An engineering department inspection in 2017 declared the building unsafe.
