Reviews

Bangur is a very good HIG and MIG residential area with good road condition and ample street lighting. Lots of offices, banks, ATMs, post offices, schools, markets, etc. facility. On one side one can use Jessore Road and on the other side one can use VIP Road. Metro station is 6mts. from Jessore Road and Calcutta Airport is 6kms.

Pros
  • Calm and peaceful area with no outside disturbances.
  • Very effective municipal administration under local councillor.
Cons
  • One can not use Plastic bag in Bangur area. It is totally banned.

PWD Surveys Basanti Highway for Widening and Median Divider

West Bengal’s PWD has begun surveying Basanti Highway to assess widening needs and make room for a median divider on the accident-prone route.

Key facts

West Bengal’s public works department (PWD) has begun a preliminary survey to determine existing widths along Basanti Highway and how much widening is needed for a median divider. The nearly 100km road, part of State Highway 3, connects Science City to Godkhali, a gateway to the Sundarbans in South 24-Parganas.

The two-lane highway carries heavy traffic and is among the most accident-prone roads near Calcutta. At Bantalabazar and Arupota, S-shaped bends limit motorists’ visibility of oncoming vehicles. Kolkata Police established a traffic guard at Bhangar under the newly formed Bhangar division in September last year.

On Thursday night, a truck hit and killed a Kolkata Police assistant sub-inspector on the highway. On Wednesday, Bholanath Ghosh, a key witness in the alleged 2024 assault on ED officers in Sandeshkhali, was injured when a truck collided with his car there.
