• Thane Municipal Corporation inaugurated the beautified Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Saheb Chowk at Anand Nagar on March 6, 2026.
• The project was envisioned by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik and inaugurated by him.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has begun work on a new elevated corridor. The 6-lane elevated freeway will start at Anand Nagar in Thane and end at Chheda Nagar in Ghatkopar. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion on one of Mumbai's busiest roads and enable travel between the two points in approximately 25 minutes.

The Kasarvadavali flyover on Ghodbunder Road was closed to traffic on Sunday afternoon following a complaint about possible irregularities near sections adjoining the flyover's protective barrier. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) initiated a safety inspection as a precaution.

Visuals from the site revealed deep cracks and fissures along parts of the safety parapet wall and concrete side barriers. The inspection will determine whether the reported irregularities are cosmetic, require repairs, or indicate a serious structural concern.

The closure immediately disrupted traffic along Ghodbunder Road. Vehicles were diverted to the road beneath the flyover, significantly increasing pressure on an already heavily used stretch and triggering long queues between Kasarvadavali and Brahmand.

The Kasarvadavali and Anand Nagar areas have witnessed substantial residential development with growing housing complexes adding to traffic volume. The flyover was originally developed by MMRDA to reduce traffic pressure in the area.

There is currently no confirmed timeline for reopening. Citizens have called for accountability if construction-related shortcomings are established, along with independent structural audits and durable reinforcement.

State government announces 382 trees will be felled for Eastern Freeway expansion project from Mulund to Anand Nagar in Thane along Eastern Express Highway. Joint survey conducted by BMC and MMRDA officials identified 1,652 trees in alignment. Per tree experts' advice: 341 trees to be replanted, 382 trees to be felled, 929 trees require no action. BMC organized hearing for suggestions and objections. Further action pending resolution of doubts and suggestions received. Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde provided written reply to Legislative Assembly in response to MLA Mihir Kotecha queries.
