• MMRDA has invited bids for a ₹723.42-crore road bridge between Kopri in Thane East and Patni near Airoli.
• The project includes a 1.4-km six-lane cable-stayed bridge across Thane Creek with approach roads.
• The bridge will start from Mith Bandar Road in Kopri, about 750 metres from Thane railway station, and end at Patni on Airoli Knowledge City Road.
• It will connect Thane Station Road with the Thane-Belapur Road corridor.
• The selected contractor must complete the project in 42 months, followed by a 60-month defect liability period.
• If work stays on schedule, the bridge is expected to open by 2030.
• MMRDA says the bridge should cut travel time between Thane East and the Airoli-Digha belt by 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
• The project is meant to ease congestion on the Kalwa and Airoli-Mulund creek bridges, where peak-hour delays can stretch to nearly an hour.
• MMRDA traffic studies show nearly 51,000 vehicles use the Thane-Belapur Road daily, while around 30,000 vehicles use the Airoli-Mulund Creek Bridge daily.
• The proposed crossing is expected to handle more than 1,900 vehicles per hour during peak periods.
• The bridge is also meant to support freight movement between JNPT, the Thane-Belapur industrial belt and the Nashik Highway, and improve access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
• The corridor serves industrial and IT-driven growth along the Thane-Belapur Road and links to major commercial hubs.

• The ongoing survey for the delayed elevated Airoli–Kalwa railway corridor may be stalled unless a written rehabilitation agreement is issued for all project-affected slum dwellers.
• The issue was raised after Thane Municipal Commissioner said rehabilitation of affected families would begin soon after the survey.
• NCP-SP leader Jitendra Awhad said the letter did not clarify where or how rehabilitation would be done.
• The corridor is about 3 km long and is being executed under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).
• The project is intended to improve Trans-Harbour rail connectivity.

• Prime Lohegaon Infraspaces LLP, a subsidiary of Pune-based Panchshil Realty, has acquired Capgemini’s Knowledge Park in Airoli, Thane, near Mumbai.
• Deal value: ₹550 crore.
• The transaction is described as one of the largest property deals in the area.

• The Airoli-Kalwa elevated railway corridor was announced in 2014 and initiated in 2016, but is still incomplete in 2025.
• One construction phase is finished, but the second and most important stretch is stalled because resettlement and rehabilitation of 786 project-affected people is unfinished.
• The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is responsible for the R&R process and has not relocated families from Bhola Nagar and Shivaji Nagar.
• The project is being executed by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC).
• The corridor is meant to connect Airoli and Kalwa directly and decongest Thane station, which handles over 6.5 lakh passengers daily across 1,000 train services.
• The line would have given passengers from Badlapur, Kasara and Kalyan direct access to Navi Mumbai’s IT and corporate hubs at Mahape, Vashi and Panvel, bypassing Thane.
• Sources cited in the report say political deadlock is also contributing to the delay.
• MRVC says the project could be completed within three years if R&R is completed.

The Maharashtra government announced a ₹4,897.19 crore provision for the Kalyan–Badlapur corridor in MMRDA’s 2026–27 budget, presented at a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The investment aims to ease pressure on suburban rail amid population growth, industrial development and rising road traffic.
