Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh urged property owners and occupiers to use the Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025-26, known as Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO), by January 31, 2026. It waives property tax, interest and penalties on dues before 2020-21 if taxpayers pay principal tax for 2025-26 and the five previous financial years, 2020-21 to 2024-25. The extension carries a 5% late fee.
By December 31, 2025, 166,587 taxpayers had paid ₹803.61 crore: ₹188.28 crore from residential properties and ₹615.32 crore from non-residential properties. The scheme added 90,139 first-time taxpayers, generating ₹312.45 crore.
Current-year property tax collections stood at ₹2,642.80 crore from 1,242,875 taxpayers, up 42.1% in collections and 20.52% in taxpayer numbers compared with the same period last year.
Delhi High Court Orders Urgent Replacement of Contaminated Water Pipes

The Delhi High Court ordered the Jal Board to replace deteriorated pipes after residents in east Delhi colonies received sewage-contaminated drinking water.
Key facts
The Delhi High Court reprimanded the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) over sewage-contaminated drinking water supplied to Yojana Vihar, Anand Vihar, Jagriti Enclave and nearby areas. A public interest litigation filed by advocate Dhruv Gupta raised health concerns. On July 2, the court ordered an on-ground inspection. The DJB reported that Yojana Vihar’s water network, installed 35 years ago, was beyond its functional lifespan; pipelines and household connections were severely damaged and required urgent replacement.
The DJB planned to issue replacement tenders by July 7 and award a contract by July 17. Work was expected to finish within 20 days of finalising the contract. The court directed completion around affected homes by August 2025 and warned delays would be treated seriously. Desilting of adjoining sewage treatment infrastructure was underway and expected to finish by August. The next hearing is scheduled for August 13.
