The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) submitted a proposal on June 1 to the state government seeking transfer of the entire Aarey Dairy land at Wakdewadi for development of a permanent and modern ST bus terminal.

The Shivajinagar ST bus terminal has operated from Aarey Dairy premises at Wakdewadi since 2020, after the original Shivajinagar depot land was handed over for the Pune Metro project. A new integrated terminal was expected as part of the metro project but did not move forward due to government changes and agency delays.

MSRTC officials propose using the remaining ~2 hectares of Aarey Dairy land for a full-scale transport hub. The original Shivajinagar location has only ~1.18 hectares remaining, insufficient for bus operations, workshops, parking and facilities.

The Shivajinagar depot is among Maharashtra's busiest. More than 200 buses begin journeys daily from the facility. Nearly 1,200 bus movements (arrivals and departures) are recorded daily. Buses collectively cover around 55,000 kilometres each day. Several bus categories operate from the depot: e-Shivai, Lal Pari, Jan Shivneri, Shivshahi and sleeper coaches.

Divisional Controller Arun Siya stated the corporation has formally requested the state government allot the Wakdewadi land. The new terminal would offer improved passenger amenities, better parking, operational facilities, maintenance infrastructure, and accommodation for drivers and staff.

A planned integrated ST terminal by Maha-Metro did not materialise after a change in state government. MSRTC currently retains only 1.18 hectares at the original Shivajinagar site, inadequate for a large terminal, workshops, and parking. The Aarey Dairy property spans nearly two hectares, sufficient for a modern complex with bus parking bays, maintenance facilities and staff quarters. The Shivajinagar depot is one of Maharashtra's largest: over 200 buses originate daily, nearly 1,200 bus movements recorded daily, covering 54,000 to 55,000 kilometres daily. Buses include e-Shivai, Lal Pari, Jan Shivneri, Shivshahi and sleeper coaches serving destinations across the state.

Nearly 96% of trees transplanted or newly planted for the Ganeshkhind Road widening project survived, according to a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Road Department report. The High Court directed tree transplantation and fresh planting, mandatory geo-tagging and reports every three months. Widened to 45 metres about three years ago, the road runs from Sancheti Hospital to Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk.

PMC planted 5,015 trees: 858 in Panchvati, 175 in Ganeshkhind, 1,889 at the Animal Husbandry Commissioner’s premises in Aundh, 447 along the adjoining riverbank, 1,290 at the poultry hatchery centre in Khadki, and 356 at the Indigenous Cow Research and Training Centre in Wakadewadi. Pipeline works damaged all 356 Wakadewadi trees; PMC asked the centre to replant. Another 182 trees were damaged: 40 in Panchvati, two in Ganeshkhind, 80 in Aundh, 25 along the riverbank and 35 at the Khadki hatchery, where trees were burnt or broken.
