Coimbatore Revises Plans for Cross Cut Road and Raja Street Parking

Coimbatore Corporation has revised proposals for multi-level parking facilities on Cross Cut Road and Raja Street, with costs of ₹10 crore and ₹15 crore.

Key facts

Coimbatore Corporation’s multi-level parking proposals for Cross Cut Road in Gandhipuram and Raja Street near Town Hall have been delayed for several years because government funding was not sanctioned.

Proposals submitted in 2017 priced the five-storey Cross Cut Road facility, with capacity for 1,466 two-wheelers and 847 four-wheelers, at ₹32.99 crore. The four-storey B.B. Street facility was estimated at ₹28.84 crore, with capacity for 1,341 two-wheelers and 483 four-wheelers. Revised proposals submitted in 2023 did not proceed because each project cost more than ₹20 crore.

The latest estimates put the Cross Cut Road facility at ₹10 crore, with space for 200 to 400 cars, and the Raja Street facility at ₹15 crore. A Corporation survey is under way and expected to take another month; the detailed project report will follow. The projects are proposed to be funded from the Corporation’s general funds.
