Farmers from Bharatiya Kisan Union blocked Sultanpur Road in Lucknow demanding compensation at current market rates instead of outdated circle rates for land acquisition.

Hundreds of farmers from Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), led by district president Alok Verma, disrupted traffic on Sultanpur Road for over two and a half hours while marching towards the chief minister's residence on October 24 to protest land acquisition in Sultanpur and Mohanlalganj areas.

Farmers demanded compensation at current market rates rather than "outdated DM circle rates" and sought reopening of land registries. They also demanded the right of selling rates if government proposals were unsatisfactory.

This march followed a 43-day sit-in at Khurdahi Bazar where farmers expressed dissatisfaction over the "indifferent attitude" of the housing development authority and district administration.

Police erected barricades to check the march, but farmers broke through causing significant traffic delays.

Lucknow Development Authority joint secretary Susheel Kumar Singh assured a meeting between LDA V-C and farmers on October 26. Additional housing commissioner Himanshu Gupta promised a follow-up discussion with commissioner, Housing Board, on November 4. Farmers agreed to return to their protest site after these commitments, but cautioned they would consider further action if substantial discussions did not occur.
