On 20 November 2025, Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra reviewed progress on the Sonia Vihar Onshore Facility Project, the Yamuna river tourism corridor and planned cruise and ferry services. Officials from the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board and Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) attended. The review covered approvals, site surveys, environmental compliance and pre-construction activities. Departments were directed to improve coordination, prevent construction delays and complete work to a high standard within prescribed timelines. Yamuna-region activities must follow National Green Tribunal (NGT) environmental norms.

Delhi’s Public Works Department has initiated the process to construct a 5.5km elevated corridor along Sonia Vihar Pusta Road in northeast Delhi and has issued a tender.

Delhi’s first capital project under the newly formed BJP government is a 6-km elevated road in Pushta Sonia Vihar, estimated to cost ₹500 crore. It will run from Nanak Sar Gurudwara to Shani Mandir at the Uttar Pradesh border, easing congestion and improving connectivity in trans-Yamuna. The road was planned in response to residents’ long-standing demand; the area’s many trees led officials to choose an elevated flyover. The stretch, currently under the Flood Department, will be transferred to the Public Works Department (PWD), which will prepare a Detailed Project Report and begin work soon. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma discussed the project on Thursday and approved it. Nanak Sar Gurudwara Chowk in Wazirabad is a government priority as a community hub. Delhi’s budget allocates ₹28,000 crore for capital expenditure, including ₹3,843 crore for roads and bridges.

PM Modi inaugurated the Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch of the Magenta Line on Sunday, alongside laying foundation stones for development projects worth ₹33,500 crore in Delhi.

Pink Line: Extended to 71.56 kilometres, completing India's first fully operational "ring metro" around Delhi. Stations on this stretch: Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Maujpur-Babarpur. Features a new bridge over the Yamuna and double-decker viaduct carrying metro track and road flyover. Strengthens connectivity between north-east and north-west Delhi.

Magenta Line: Extended to approximately 49 kilometres. Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park stretch includes seven elevated stations: Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa.

Foundation stones laid for three Phase 5(A) corridors: Central Vista corridor (9.913km underground, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha), Golden Line extension to IGI Airport Terminal-1 (2.263km underground), Golden Line extension Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj (3.9km elevated). Expected to strengthen links to NCR cities: Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh.

Foundation stones also laid for GPRA colonies redevelopment worth ₹15,200 crore. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta stated metro expansion improves public transport; 2025-26 budget prioritises public transport.

• The Sonia Vihar onshore facility will include ticket counters, waiting halls, a rooftop restaurant, souvenir shops, a food and play zone, an amphitheatre and a dedicated Yamuna aarti area. A musical water fountain is proposed in the river.
