Shastripuram Road Overbridge Awaits Inauguration After Five-Year Build
Telangana Today · · Infrastructure
Hyderabad’s completed, ₹80-crore Shastripuram Road overbridge remains closed pending inauguration, despite commuters using it and its expected relief to nearby routes.
Key facts
The Shastripuram Road overbridge (RoB) in Hyderabad is complete but awaiting inauguration by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Commuters have removed barriers and begun using it. The ₹80-crore steel bridge was proposed in 2017 to provide an alternative to the Uddamgadda railway crossing; work began in 2021 and took five years. The article describes it as 190 metres long and later gives its length as 490 metres.
GHMC expects the inauguration by the end of April or the first week of May 2026. The bridge is intended to ease congestion and railway-crossing delays, connect Mailardevpally and Vattepally, and serve commuters travelling from Falaknuma, Shastripuram, Katedan and Aramgarh towards Shamshabad, NH-44, the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. A detour of nearly 4 km via the National Police Academy, Shivarampally or Falaknuma-Chandrayangutta route to Bandlaguda Road is expected to become a three-to-five-minute trip.
HYDRAA Demolishes Playground Encroachments in Shastripuram Colony
Siasat · · Regulatory
HYDRAA cleared illegal structures from 6,500 square yards reserved for a playground in Shastripuram Colony, protecting public land valued at about ₹100 crore.
Key facts
On April 1, 2026, HYDRAA demolished encroachments on about 6,500 square yards reserved for a public playground in Shastripuram Colony, Mailardevpally village, Rajendranagar mandal, Ranga Reddy district. The land is within an 188-acre HUDA-approved layout. Encroachers had occupied it for three years, selling plots through notarised documents and building without permissions.
HYDRAA demolished five under-construction G+3 buildings and two single-room structures; two other buildings were left untouched because they were occupied. GHMC had issued notices and passed speaking orders in 2024 warning of demolition, but construction continued. After residents complained, HYDRAA, GHMC and revenue officials inspected and confirmed the playground reservation. The cleared land, valued at about ₹100 crore, is intended for community use.

Shastripuram ROB Nears Opening After Four Years of Construction
Oneindia · · Infrastructure
Hyderabad’s 490-metre Shastripuram road-over-bridge, built for about ₹71 crore, is nearing opening after minor service-road work, improving access to NH-44 and the airport.
Key facts
The 490-metre Shastripuram road-over-bridge (ROB) in Hyderabad is ready for use after nearly four years of construction. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is expected to open it soon; minor service-road work is likely to finish within a week. GHMC launched the project in 2022 with South Central Railway at an estimated cost of about ₹71 crore.
The ROB crosses the railway level crossing in Uddamgadda, where passing trains caused long vehicle delays. It connects commuters to National Highway-44, the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, and includes a separate pedestrian pathway. Residents hope it will open before Ramzan.
Conventional bridge over Mir Alam Tank planned in Hyderabad
thehindu · · Infrastructure
A 2.4-kilometre conventional bridge with multiple piers will connect Shastripuram to Chintalmet across Mir Alam Tank, built by KNR Constructions for ₹319.24 crore in 24 months.
Key facts
The planned bridge across Mir Alam Tank in Hyderabad will connect Shastripuram on the Bengaluru Highway to Chintalmet. It is a 35-metre width, 2.4-kilometre conventional bridge with multiple piers, not a cable-stayed design as speculated. The structure will feature ornamental lighting and a 1.5-metre footpath offering views of Nehru Zoological Park and Mir Mahmood ki Pahadi.
The deepest region of the tank is nearly 12 metres; at other places, 9 metres. Pillars will be raised in the lake with circular junctions at either end for traffic flow.
KNR Constructions awarded the EPC contract for ₹319.24 crore with a 24-month completion deadline. Rights activists expressed concern about environmental impact and loss of lake area through encroachments and infrastructure. The lake has historically shrunk due to STP plants built inside it. Water quality assessed by Telangana State Pollution Control Board in January 2025 showed total coliform count at 540 MPN per 100 ml, making it unsuitable even for recreational purposes.
The bridge is expected to relieve traffic congestion from Bahadurpura Flyover and Aramghar Flyover, routing traffic toward the PVNR Expressway. The Mir Alam Tank was built approximately 220 years ago by the Nizam's Prime Minister Mir Alam as a drinking water source.
