DMRC will carry out a feasibility study for an integrated double-decker flyover-cum-metro corridor along the proposed Keshav Puram-Rohini Sector 34 corridor, part of Phase-V(B) expansion. The 16.3-km corridor is one of seven proposed expansions awaiting final approval. If feasible, it will be the city's fourth double-decker flyover, with three currently under construction. On a double-decker viaduct, vehicles run on the lower deck while metro runs on the upper deck.

A tender has been floated for a consultancy service to conduct the study. Estimated cost: Rs 2 crore, expected completion: six months.

The proposed corridor will be fully elevated with 12 stations connecting West Shalimar Bagh, East Pitampura, Rohini Sector 16, Delhi Technological University and Rohini Sector 29. Three stations will have interchange facilities: Keshavpuram (Red Line), North Pitampura (Pink Line) and Rohini Sector 34 (Red Line).

Existing double-decker viaducts under construction:

• Bhajanpura-Yamuna Vihar (Pink Line): 1.4 km, expected operational by year-end
• Azadpur-Ashok Vihar (Magenta Line extension): 2.2 km, expected ready by year-end
• Sangam Vihar-Ambedkar Nagar (Golden Line): 2.4 km, longest of the three

Other DMRC Phase-IV projects under construction: Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk, Inderlok to Indraprastha (Magenta Line extensions), Delhi Aerocity to Tughlaqabad and Saket G Block to Lajpat Nagar (Golden Line), Rithala-Kundli (Red Line extension).

Delhi High Court bench of Justices Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain allowed authorities to proceed with demolition in Shalimar Bagh for expansion of public road. About 98 occupants on government-acquired land in Haiderpur village must vacate by May 30, 2026. Court order dated April 6 stated road expansion cannot be delayed further for essential services access including medical care, education, and fire safety. Petitioners sought protection from demolition, claiming families resided on land for decades. Earlier land acquisition challenges were dismissed by high court and Supreme Court declined to interfere. Court directed occupants would not be dispossessed until May 30 and asked government to consider ex-gratia compensation sympathetically. After May 30, authorities are at liberty to proceed with road widening, removal of encroachments and unauthorized constructions. Road widening necessary to improve traffic flow and ensure emergency vehicle access to nearby hospitals and schools.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated several development projects in Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency on Saturday, aimed at improving drainage, roads, and public amenities.

Projects inaugurated:

• Remodelling of stormwater drain on Haiderpur Main Road, extending from Bus Stand to DA Block, implemented under New Master Drain Plan 2025 using precast RCC drains
• Construction of slip road and U-turns around Railway Under Bridge (RUB) at Shalimar Chowk to ease traffic congestion
• Remodelling of stormwater drain on Bagga Marg using factory-manufactured precast RCC drains
• Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Health and Wellness Centre) at Sahipur Village Chaupal providing primary healthcare services

Ongoing works reviewed include Road No. 319, RUB at Shalimar Bagh, Chaudhary Mehar Chand Marg, Road No. 320, and Swami Shraddhanand Saraswati Marg.

CM Gupta conducted surprise inspection at Singlapur Labour Chowk reviewing road widening and drainage improvement works, directing officials to maintain quality, transparency, and adhere to project timelines while considering convenience of local residents during construction.

Pilot project in BH Block, Shalimar Bagh launched, Rs 8 crore, estimated completion in three months. Janakpuri C4E Block selected as next phase, executed by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL). Janakpuri project involves replacing 2 km overhead low-tension cables with 2.5 km underground feeder cables and 2,400 m service cables. Installation of 15 feeder pillars. Coverage includes Major P Srikumar Marg, Shani Bazar Road, and Ram Mandir Marg. Expected completion by end of August. Future expansion planned to Malviya Nagar, Safdarjung Development Area, and Shahdara pending approvals. Project uses automated fault detection and IoT sensors for real-time monitoring. Delhi government allocated Rs 100 crore in 2025-26 budget for broader underground cabling rollout. Underground cabling reduces power disruptions from weather-related damage to overhead infrastructure.
