After a March 9 report highlighted delays in storm-water drain works at Selaivayal, Greater Chennai Corporation officials inspected the site within a week, followed days later by traffic police. Barricades converted the narrow road into a one-way street to reduce congestion and accident risks. The stretch links thousands of commuters travelling towards Manali and Tondiarpet High Road; schools and colleges in Selaivayal had worsened peak-hour congestion on Kadumbadi Amman Koil Street. Vehicles heading to Manali can use KMA Garden, while traffic from Selaivayal to Tondiarpet High Road is diverted via Kadumbadi Amman Koil Street. Residents and a college student said completion of the remaining drain work would bring relief and help restore the original traffic movement.

Residents of Selaivayal in Kodungaiyur urged the Greater Chennai Corporation to speed up stormwater drain work on Kadumpadi Amman Koil Street, used by thousands of motorists daily. The locality has three schools and a college, and the narrow road faces heavy peak-hour traffic.
Delays near Sivan Koil have made Ragavan Nagar Road, which connects to Kadumpadi Amman Koil Street, a bottleneck and accident-prone area. Residents said the route serves commuters travelling towards Manali; a student said reaching college from Tondiarpet High Road takes more than 15 minutes during peak hours. Traders cited dust pollution and requested more workers and street-sweeper machines. Residents threatened a protest and signature campaign if work is not expedited.
The Corporation said work began in February. About 250 metres of the proposed 650 metres are complete. Damaged pipes linking drain and drinking-water lines were replaced on Tuesday, and the Corporation will deploy more workers and install signboards ahead of the turn.
