Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) imposed a ₹50 lakh penalty on Ajnara Homes in Sector 16B for a non-functional sewage treatment plant (STP) and discharging untreated sewage. The society was also fined more than ₹4 lakh for improper solid-waste management.

The society has around 2,300 flats and generates an estimated 1.15 million litres of sewage daily. Officials found untreated sewage entering a drain; after it became choked, sewage flowed into basements of nearby homes. Residents said the STP had been shut for two years.

GNIDA CEO NG Ravi Kumar directed the sewerage department to seek information from builder societies about STP capacity and operation, residential population, and reuse of treated water for irrigation. Officials were told to inspect sites and take penal action for non-compliance or failure to respond. Ajnara Homes was penalised after it did not provide the requested details and residents complained.
