Senior Congress leader and Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency in-charge Sameer Waliullah said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had fast-tracked development and welfare in Hyderabad’s Old City. Projects include the ₹620-crore Chanchalguda-Santoshnagar flyover, Old City Metro, a new 2,000-bed Osmania General Hospital, urban Indiramma LIG housing towers, Mir Alam Tank bridge-cum-development and Musi rejuvenation. Waliullah said the projects would boost Hyderabad’s image and reflect the state government’s focus on the historic Old City.

Hyderabad opened the Chanchalguda–Santosh Nagar flyover to traffic after its inauguration on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The 3.2-km steel flyover is 16.6 metres wide, has four lanes and was built at an estimated cost of ₹620 crore. It provides an elevated route between Chanchalguda and Santosh Nagar, intended to improve movement and ease pressure on surface roads.

GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan inspected ongoing works at Moosarambagh bridge on August 30, directing officials to prepare for inauguration.

Nalgonda Flyover:

• Main structure completed
• Commissioner instructed completion of A4 up-ramp and A3 side ramp towards Champapet within two to three days
• 2.5-km-long, four-lane, bi-directional steel flyover
• Construction cost: Rs 620 crore
• Route: begins at Chanchalguda, terminates at Santoshnagar
• Includes main ramp near Yadagiri Theatre at Santoshnagar, up-ramp at Saidabad, down-ramp at IS Sadan
• Expected to benefit traffic through Chanchalguda, Saidabad, Santosh Nagar, IS Sadan, Owaisi Hospital, Kanchan Bagh, Champapet, Sagar Road
• Will reduce travel time and ease congestion in Malakpet, Saidabad, Dhobighat, Champapet, Karmanghat

Both projects expected to strengthen connectivity and improve traffic movement in south Hyderabad.

On Thursday, the GHMC Standing Committee unanimously approved land acquisition in Secunderabad Cantonment for two alternate roads/rail overbridges at AoC Circle and a four-lane, unidirectional Rasoolpura Junction. It also approved acquisition of seven properties for the proposed flyover from Owaisi Junction towards Santosh Nagar, and 106 properties for grade separators at Fatehbowli and Nanal Nagar junctions.

The committee approved 18 agenda items in total, including a primary food testing laboratory in KPHB Colony and a multi-level parking complex near Khilwat.

Heavy overnight rainfall beginning around 1.40 am lashed Hyderabad early Thursday, causing severe waterlogging and traffic disruption in Lingampally, Chandanagar and Serilingampally.

Rainfall recorded: University of Hyderabad 148.5 mm, MMTS Lingampally 114 mm, Chandanagar 109.8 mm. In contrast, Secunderabad, Golconda and LB Nagar saw under 10 mm.

Lingampally railway underpass turned into a waterbody, blocking traffic during peak hours on both sides. In Chandanagar, floodwaters entered shopping complex cellars along the national highway, damaging stores. Nallagandla's Tellapur-Nallagandla Road was inundated after evening rains, stranding residents in gated communities. Kondapur saw two-wheelers stuck in knee-deep water.

GHMC's disaster response force deployed across affected zones including Santosh Nagar, Champapet and Kondapur to clear drains and pump water. HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited flood-prone sites including Lingampally railway underpass and Kasoros Apartments, identifying lack of drainage routes from upstream areas into Gopi Cheruvu as causing severe backflow. Officials directed to lower water levels in Gopi Cheruvu and Chakali Cheruvu and speed up stormwater canal construction in Bachupally.

In Upparapally, an internal link drain was dug and operationalised within 12 hours to protect Ashok Vihar Colony, which had faced flooding for seven years.

IMD issued yellow alert till June 14 for continued light to moderate rain and gusty winds. Officials flagged concerns over urban runoff and blocked lakes. Residents urged long-term drainage upgrades near Gopi Cheruvu and Palle Cheruvu.
