Over 3,000 residents of Raheja Vistas in Hyderabad's Nacharam face severe air pollution and health risks from nearby chemical factories and industrial plants.

Raheja Vistas residential complex of approximately 900 families in Nacharam, Hyderabad, with over 3,000 residents, experiences severe air pollution, noise and health risks from chemical factories, pharmaceutical plants, paint manufacturers and plastic production units in Nacharam and Mallapur industrial areas.
Residents report persistent chemical odour especially at night, with sulphur, ammonia, and burnt materials. Nearly 500 children live in the complex, with thousands more attending nearby schools including DPS Nacharam and Johnson Grammar School. Parents express concern about children's health.
Residents were promised adjoining industries would be relocated by 2024, but this has not occurred and pollution levels have worsened. Government promised industry relocation outside ORR by 2022 via GO Ms. No. 20; deadline extended to 2025.
Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) maintains pollution levels are within permissible limits. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) sets permissible limits: ammonia 400 µg/m³ (24-hour average) and sulphur dioxide 80 µg/m³ (24-hour average) in residential areas. AIHA odour thresholds: sulphur dioxide 0.3-5 ppm, ammonia 5 ppm.
Consultant pulmonologist Dr Madhava Rao states short-term sulphur dioxide exposure causes coughing, wheezing and bronchospasms at 0.1 ppm; ammonia irritates respiratory tract. Children particularly vulnerable due to developing lungs. Frequent exposure implies cumulative health risks.
PCB regional officer Venkatnarsu questioned how residential apartments were permitted in industrial zone. Environmentalist Subba Rao B.V. advocates air shed regulations similar to water sheds and collective industry accountability like Thailand model. Advocate Agasthya Sharma, president of Raheja Vistas Elite Social Welfare Association, expressed residents feel trapped in harmful environment.
