PMC Forms Panel for Phule Memorial Expansion and Land Acquisition

  • Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) formed a 14-member committee to oversee land acquisition for integrating and expanding Mahatma Phule Wada and Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial in Mahatma Phule Peth. Municipal commissioner Rajendra Bhosale issued the order on Friday, April 25, 2025.
  • A 31-member squad will survey properties across 5,310 sq m between and around the memorials; Kisan Dagadkhair, assistant municipal commissioner of Bhavani Peth ward, will lead it. Maharashtra cleared the proposal through a notification on February 7.
  • About 5,310 sq m will be acquired under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, with another 298 sq m earmarked under Section 205 for road infrastructure. The sites are about 300 metres apart; existing structures along the stretch will be acquired for a road in Pune’s development plan.
  • Chaired by deputy commissioner of Zone 2 Avinash Sakpal, the committee will survey and inspect the area, consult affected residents and gather preferences for compensation through FSI, cash or TDR. It will prepare a proposal for approval by the municipal commissioner, standing committee and general body.

PMC is also building a flyover and grade separator at Mukundrao Ambedkar Chowk, with construction causing diversions and bottlenecks. Similar BRT removals took place on Ahmednagar and Solapur roads.
