The 12-ward panchayat has more than 35,000 residents and 8,200 household connections; new residential areas have emerged amid population growth over the past three years.

The villages are Pattanam, Pattanam Pudur, Nagammanayakkanpalayam, Kaveri Nagar, Venkateshwara Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, Murugan Nagar, As Nagar and Ishwarya Nagar. The panchayat needs more than 12 lakh litres daily but receives 3.74 lakh litres allocated from the Pillur I scheme; the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board provides up to 6 lakh litres. Distribution takes around 20 days, with water supplied for 90 minutes in each area. Other panchayats receive water weekly.

The scheme began in 1995 and was augmented in 2010, based on a projected 2025 population of 7,500. The Board has proposed a new scheme and told the district administration to consider merging Pattanam with the corporation or providing additional water sources.
