Chanakya, Panje-Dongari, Sewree-Mahul — all part of Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (TCFS) Ramsar site and vital migratory bird habitats.
Wildlife board endorsed bird sanctuary proposals at Sewri-Mahul, NRI-TS Chanakya, and Panje in December 2015, publicly supported by then CM Devendra Fadnavis. National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management recently surveyed wetlands at Panje, NRI Complex, and T.S. Chanakya per RTI information. NatConnect director B N Kumar urged Maharashtra Environment Department to expedite official notification under Environment Protection Act and declare as Conservation Reserves.
Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NIMAL) stated in environmental compliance reports it will preserve biodiversity in airport zone as recommended by Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS). State Mangrove Cell included these wetlands under TCFS Management Plan 2020–2030.
CIDCO's earlier plans to build golf course on NRI wetland shelved per NIMAL's EIA report. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation expressed interest in maintaining NRI and TSC wetlands. NatConnect plans to escalate with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Forest Minister Ganesh Naik.

CIDCO has denied accepting wetland status of areas in Navi Mumbai, but an RTI document procured by environmentalist BN Kumar, Director of NatConnect Foundation, confirms wetlands of Panje, NRI Complex, TS Chanakya, Lotus Lake and Kharghar are among 564 wetlands identified and surveyed by Maharashtra Government.
Maharashtra Environment and Climate Change Ministry assigned Chennai-based National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) to map and prepare comprehensive documentation of state wetlands; study ongoing.
NCCSM has completed survey of 564 wetlands across eight districts since March 2024: Nagpur (71), Gonda (43), Bhandara (31), Palghar (8), Raigad (18), Thane (19), Chandrapur (46), Sindhudurg (count not specified). Pune district covered 265 wetlands so far with process continuing.

The relaxation covers Swapnapurti CHS and KH-3 Vastuvihar-Celebration in Kharghar, and NRI Complex in Seawoods. FCFS homes were launched in June 2026; applicants can select and book a tenement based on availability. Immediate possession will be given after all payments are received and required formalities are completed.
