Delhi-Alwar RRTS Project: Enhancing Connectivity and Transforming Commute
The Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), a project aimed at linking Delhi with the satellite towns of Manesar, Rewari, and Alwar, is currently in progress. This essential infrastructure will also integrate with Delhi Metro's network across four lines. While ten kilometers of the route are under construction currently, the final completion date for the project is still pending official confirmation.
Project Overview and Financial Aspects
With a budget of Rs. 37,000 crore, the Delhi-Alwar Regional Transit System (RRTS) strives to create an efficient link between India’s capital and its surrounding areas. Upon completion, estimates suggest that around 8.5 lakh passengers will utilize the system per day. The construction is supported by a 60 percent foreign loan provided by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Japan International Cooperation Agency. Delve into the key features and forthcoming developments concerning the Delhi-Alwar RRTS.
Key Features of the Delhi-Alwar RRTS
Spanning 164 kilometers, the Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will connect Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari, and Alwar, facilitating smoother commutes. This project forms part of the RapidX corridors, under the National Capital Region Transport Corporation’s (NCRTC) Phase 1 construction of the Rapid Rail Transport System. With trains expected to operate at an average speed of 105km/h, travel time between Alwar and Delhi should reduce to approximately 104 minutes.

Recent Updates on the Delhi-Alwar RRTS
Citing funding constraints, the Delhi Government initially expressed its inability to contribute Rs 3,261 crore toward the construction of the Delhi-Alwar RRTS corridor. However, following a recent Supreme Court mandate, the government has now agreed to release the initial installment of Rs 415 crore within the next two months.
To bolster passenger security along the RapidX routes, Delhi Police has proposed the establishment of five new police stations to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The proposed locations include Kashmere Gate, Mukarba Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, and Indira Gandhi International Airport.
