MHADA to Potentially Lead SRA Scheme Redevelopment
MUMBAI: Following the overwhelming response to MHADA's offer of 4,034 houses across various categories, the Builders Association of India (BAI) has proposed that the Maharashtra government should assume control of SRA scheme redevelopment. Furthermore, BAI suggests nominating MHADA, MMRDA, and CIDCO as the primary agencies for this endeavor.
Leveraging Government Agencies for Efficient Redevelopment
BAI Treasurer, Anand Gupta, elucidated, "MHADA, MMRDA, and CIDCO could provide free rehabilitation housing to eligible slum residents by constructing multi-storied buildings, as stipulated in the SRA Scheme. The remaining area could then be sold to unsuccessful MHADA flat applicants, thereby catering to the demand for reasonably priced housing."
A Written Proposal to the State Government
BAI has formally submitted this proposal to the state government, highlighting the potential benefits. Notably, over 2 lakh applicants vied for the 4,034 MHADA flats in May, with approximately 7 lakh home-seekers anticipating affordable housing opportunities. Funding such projects is envisioned not to be a significant hurdle, given that customers are eager to purchase houses at MHADA's announced rates and terms.
MHADA's Advantage in the Housing Market
MHADA boasts a substantial database of home-seekers in Mumbai, accumulated over time, which guarantees a ready customer base for affordable and mass housing segments.
