Hyderabad Deccan (Nampally) Railway Station’s modernisation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has reached nearly 20% completion and is on schedule. The ₹327.27-crore project targets completion by December 2027. The station handles an average of 50 trains and around 25,000 passengers daily.

Completed works include B1 and B2 basement parking on the northern side, the AC Coach Maintenance Office building and demolition of old quarters. Southern-side basement parking foundations, 11 kV and 33 kV substations, and Type-2 residential quarters are underway. Fourteen of 54 air-concourse foundations are complete; metro-connected skywalk pillars are being built, and an old eastern-side building is being removed.

Plans include a new G2 main station building on the east, a modernised western entrance, a 72 × 90-metre air concourse over tracks and platforms, and a 9-metre-wide skywalk/FOB with travellators linking Nampally Metro Station. Underground parking will accommodate 145 cars and include EV charging. The project also includes 875 kWp of solar panels, green-building certification and CCTV-based security.

In the late 19th century, Albert Abid, an Armenian valet to Hyderabad’s sixth Nizam, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan, opened Abid & Company between Nampally and Basheerbagh. The Roman-style building housed Hyderabad’s first large modern department store, selling imported clothing, luxury goods, crockery and foreign watches; the Nizam and royal family shopped there. It was illuminated for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. The area became known first as Abid Shop, then Abid Road and eventually Abids. The original store was demolished in 1939 and replaced by Palace Talkies. The cinema closed in the 1980s, and the site became a modern shopping complex.

Survey of five Hyderabad localities found none met Indian Roads Congress guidelines requiring 1.8m clear width in residential areas and 2.5m in commercial zones.

Lakdi-ka-Pul to Banjara Hills: Footpath narrows on bridge, becomes unsafe at night. Near Rayalaseema Ruchulu and Saifabad Police Station, hotels and canteens spill onto path, public toilets sit on pavement. At AC Guards, path is broken and littered. Masab Tank pavement becomes marketplace with hawkers, single-lane squeeze. Tree pits, tree trunks and two-wheelers block near 555 Restaurant. Poles outside Aqeeq restaurants and crockery shops obstruct. Kingston Hospital uses stretch for parking, Dine Hill restaurant's ramp breaks it. Near Balaji Grand Bazaar, puncture shop tyres and paan stalls take over. Bajaj Electronics area recovers briefly, then disappears where banks use for parking. Near Banjara Lake stops halfway. Opposite lane near Virinchi Hospital too narrow for two people to pass. Back at Lakdi-ka-Pul, bus stop sits on footpath; 5-6pm commuters spill onto road. Last stretch near CID Office taken by toilet block, repair shop, swing shop, restaurants.

MLA Colony and Jubilee Hills: No sidewalks in MLA Colony; house help walks 20-25 minutes through narrow lanes. People rest or sleep on footpaths where they exist. Jubilee Hills near Road No 45 bus stand has no proper sidewalk, potholes, water, footpaths not visible. Supreme Court declared walking on footpath a fundamental right but changes little on ground.

Hyderabad’s MMTS, run by South Central Railway with the Telangana government since 2003, serves Hyderabad and Secunderabad on three core corridors, with Medchal and Umdanagar extensions. It has around 29 stations on the core network, plus stations on the extensions. Services run roughly 4:30 am–12:30 am; check NTES or South Central Railway for revised schedules.

Minimum fares are around ₹5; First Class fares start at about ₹25. First Class suburban fares were rationalised, roughly halving single-journey fares. Season tickets are available; passengers must carry photo ID with the pass. RailOne is the official ticketing app after UTS was discontinued in March 2026. R-Wallet balances carry over when users register with the same mobile number; wallet payments earn a discount on unreserved tickets.

MMTS and Hyderabad Metro tickets are not interchangeable. Interchange options include Secunderabad, Begumpet and the Hitech City area. Hitech City and Hafeezpet serve the IT corridor; Lingampally is the western terminus, while Hyderabad (Nampally) serves the central city and Kacheguda connects to southern long-distance services. The western section is busiest during peak hours; frequency drops off-peak, and monsoon delays may occur.

• Traffic will be diverted in Mehdipatnam from December 19 to 21 because of ongoing civil works for a skywalk at Rythu Bazar.
• The two-lane road stretch between Rethibowli Junction and SD Eye Hospital will remain closed during construction.
• Public advisory: avoid the road stretch from Pillar No. 40 to Pillar No. 1 of the PVNR Expressway due to expected congestion on nearby roads and junctions.

• Tolichowki to Nampally or Lakadikapool: Nanal Nagar Junction – Balika Bhavan – Laxmi Nagar via Pillar No. 68 – U turn at Pillar No. 57 – Gudimalkapur – Yadav Bhavan – Meraj Café Junction right turn – Asif Nagar – Mallepally – Nampally – Lakadikapool.
