A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall late Monday night forced five families to vacate homes in Naigaon, Bhiwandi. Five houses, including two temporary structures, were buried under debris from the hillside. No casualties reported.
Bhiwandi Nizampura City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) dispatched disaster management teams and a fire engine. Electricity supply to approximately 15 homes, including the five affected, was suspended to prevent hazards.
Evacuation notices had been issued to residents in advance, as early as May. Banners warning the area was dangerous to live in were placed, but residents did not heed warnings. Temporary shelters were arranged at a nearby school; residents moved in with relatives instead. The BNCMC continues monitoring as rains persist.
