Property acquired by Gokhale Landmarks for Rs 311 crore, with Rs 230 crore paid and remaining amount for hostel redevelopment. Charity commissioner had ordered status quo on transaction last week. Jain community held protests in Pune and other Maharashtra cities alleging trustees favoured developer and violated charitable land norms. Controversy became political with allegations involving Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, which he denied.

Developer Vishal Gokhale sent email to trustees on Sunday conveying decision to pull out of property deal between Gokhale Landmarks LLP and Seth Hirachand Nemchand Digambar Jain Boarding Trust in Model Colony, Pune. Email urged trustees to execute deed of cancellation and treat transaction as rescinded. Deal value: Rs 230 crore. Gokhale stated decision made based on request of Jain community members including existing clients and friends, in deference to their religious sentiments. Jain community protesters welcomed decision but clarified agitation would continue until deal officially cancelled. Charity Commissioner hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
