Mumbai Metro Line 9 Phase One to Open on April 7

The first 4.5–5 km phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9, connecting Dahisar East to Kashigaon, is scheduled to open on April 7.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will inaugurate Metro Line 9’s first phase on April 7, after launch dates shifted from April 3 to April 6. The 4.5–5 km elevated stretch from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon in Mira Road has four stations: Dahisar, Pandurangwadi, Miragaon and Kashigaon. Line 9 extends the existing Red Line 7; passengers can interchange at Dahisar East. Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has prepared a timetable adding 40–50 daily trips to the existing 305 services on lines 7 and 2A. MMRDA expects at least 50,000–100,000 additional daily passengers. Lines 7 and 2A currently carry around 340,000 passengers daily, compared with 250,000 in February 2025. The full Dahisar East–Mira-Bhayandar project spans 13.58 km. It received Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety clearance in January after trial runs. Roadwork near Dahisar check naka and crossing the Western Express Highway may complicate station access. First announced in 2016, the project faced land acquisition hurdles, contractor delays and opposition to proposed depot locations.
