Plans to relocate the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus stand from its current site in Gandhipuram to Mettupalayam Road have been officially put on hold.

Coimbatore Corporation has begun surveys for a proposed 6-km Sanganoor canal revamp from Kanuvai to Mettupalayam Road, intended to provide direct connectivity between the areas. A DPR will be prepared after the surveys.

The existing plan covers Mettupalayam Road to Trichy Road in four packages. Package 1, estimated at ₹49 crore, covers 2.5 km to Rathinapuri bridge; retaining walls are built and road work is complete for about 2 km. Remaining work is held up by encroachments. Notices have been issued to 10 houses, whose occupants are to move to Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board tenements.

Packages 2–4 cover Rathinapuri bridge–Sathyamangalam Road, Sathyamangalam Road–Avinashi Road and Avinashi Road–Trichy Road. Tentative DPRs estimated at ₹294 crore have been submitted for approval. A comprehensive DPR will follow a socio-economic survey and include alternate-housing costs. Works include removing encroachments, restoring canal width and forming roads on both sides.

The State Highways Department has begun cutting 1,342 trees on the Nariyampalli-Mettupalayam stretch as part of a ₹226-crore project to widen the 38km road from Avinashi in Tirupur district to Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district. The existing two-lane road is seven metres wide; the planned four-lane road will be 16.2 metres wide to address heavy traffic congestion. The first-phase work covers 13km from Avinashi to Nariyampalli. Another 470 trees were felled on that stretch in March 2025.

Underground drainage pipeline shifting on Mettupalayam Road has caused manhole backflow and waterlogging in Coimbatore for over a week. Residents in Wards 44, 45 and 69 reported foul-smelling wastewater entering stormwater drains and collecting at low points, affecting several streets in K.K. Pudur and surrounding areas. In K.K. Pudur’s Ward 44, a manhole on Ramasamy Street has overflowed throughout the day for more than a week. Ward 45 councillor Baby Sudha said four streets there were severely affected, and UGD problems had been reported since construction of the flyover. The current work aggravated the issue. A Corporation official said the Highways Department began shifting a pipeline near Anna Market, beneath the Saibaba Colony flyover, because it was close to the flyover pillars; the pipeline is being moved to the service roads. The work disrupted normal network flow. The Corporation has asked the Highways Department to finish within a week.

The service road beneath the newly opened Saibaba Colony flyover on Mettupalayam Road has poor road conditions and traffic snarls, raising concerns about ambulance access to hospitals, commercial establishments and residential areas. Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) pipeline shifting and installation work closed one side from Alagesan Road near Murugan Mills; work also began on the other side while vehicles continued using the stretch. A truck recently became stuck in an allegedly unclosed excavation, causing a jam. Motorists and hospital sources said ambulances carrying patients were delayed, while others struggled to leave hospitals. Hospital authorities and building owners urged authorities to expedite repairs. A State Highways Department official said CCMC began work without permission or consultation, and the department had raised the issue with senior officials. CCMC said pipeline installation was complete and wet mix had been laid; bitumen work would begin in the next few days after it settled.
