NHAI Builds Two U-Turn Cuts Beneath Zirakpur Flyover

NHAI is spending about ₹30 lakh on two U-turn cuts beneath Zirakpur flyover, with work expected to finish by March 31.

Key facts

The National Highway Authority of India is constructing two cuts beneath the Zirakpur flyover on the Chandigarh–Ambala National Highway, between Patiala Chowk and Kohinoor Dhaba point. The cuts will let commuters make U-turns in the market instead of taking a long detour to the Lohgarh cut, and are expected to reduce traffic at Patiala Chowk and Kohinoor Dhaba Chowk and curb wrong-way driving, a major cause of accidents. The first cut is in front of NK Sharma Road; the second is near the vegetable market by Preet Colony. The work costs about ₹30 lakh and is expected to be completed by March 31. Zirakpur’s first flyover opened in 2009 to relieve local congestion and provide free passage to Delhi-bound traffic.
