Kharar-Landran Road Remains Hazardous Amid Construction and Traffic Snarls

A nearly 2-km stretch of Kharar-Landran Road remains damaged and partly under construction, with an uncovered drain, traffic snarls and dust affecting commuters.
Key facts
The Kharar–Landran road, connecting Kharar with Landran, Chandigarh, residential societies and institutions, carries heavy daily traffic, including school buses and office commuters. On the nearly 2-km stretch, construction on one carriageway forces vehicles into a single lane; potholes and uneven surfaces create bottlenecks. Interlocking tiles laid near Shivalik City have improved only that portion, while the rest remains broken, with exposed mud and dust. An uncovered side drain has reportedly caused vehicles to fall in, including one incident this week. Commuters said there is no traffic management or traffic police presence. Residents and daily users have demanded completion of the work, road repairs, drain covers and traffic personnel. SDM Kharar Gurmeet Singh said tenders had been allotted, work would be expedited and authorities would be asked to deploy traffic officials.
