Pune's four key dams – Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar – collective storage slipped by 1 TMC to 28.2 TMC from 29.15 TMC. Khadakwasla dam witnessed the highest reduction, from 100% to 54% storage capacity, losing 1 TMC. Combined storage now stands at 96.8%. Three upstream dams (Temghar, Panshet, Varasgaon) recorded less than 100mm rainfall since Sept 1. Khadakwasla dam received only 5mm. Scanty rainfall in catchment areas over the last three weeks caused the reduction.

The proposed Khadakwasla-Hadapsar-Kharadi Metro corridor is undergoing survey and route-alignment work. Pune Metro officials met residents in Kolhewadi to explain the proposed route and address community concerns.

Kolhewadi is currently proposed as the starting station. However, residents have demanded that the main Metro station and car shed be developed beyond the gas shed at Khadakwasla instead, arguing this would improve connectivity for residents and visitors and encourage commercial activity and tourism-related businesses.

Pune Metro officials responded positively to the suggestion and said the demand would be communicated to senior authorities for consideration. Final decision depends on further planning and approval.

Local representatives have also sought a flyover between Kolhewadi and Nanded Phata, running alongside the proposed Metro pillars, to address growing traffic pressure in areas including Nanded, Kirkatwadi, Nandoshi and Kolhewadi.

Irrigation Department issued alert as Khadakwasla Dam reached 76% storage capacity on July 7. Heavy rainfall in catchment area; possibility dam fills to 80% or more within hours. Water discharge from spillway could commence anytime. People advised not to enter riverbed; equipment and livestock in riverbed should be relocated immediately. Water level had dropped sharply due to delayed monsoon, forcing Pune Municipal Corporation to impose water cuts. Heavy rainfall over past days significantly increased dam storage. PMC Mayor Manjusha Nagpure announced water cuts cancelled till July 12 due to upcoming Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj.

Pune Municipal Corporation’s General Body approved declaring its intention to prepare a Development Plan for 23 villages merged into the city in June 2021, and appointed City Engineer Aniruddha Pavaskar as planning officer. PMRDA’s earlier draft faced complaints over agricultural land being designated for housing and reservations allegedly benefiting large developers; the state government ordered it cancelled and assigned a fresh plan to PMC. The Development Plan Cell will survey existing land use and plan for population growth and infrastructure needs over the next 20 years. The draft will be published for objections and suggestions; a state-appointed committee will hear stakeholders before a revised proposal goes to the PMC General Body and then the state for final sanction and notification. Officials expect a shorter-than-usual timeline, despite local bodies generally having two years to prepare a draft, because PMRDA completed substantial groundwork. Pune Metro may expand with a new corridor from Wakad to Shewalewadi via Katraj, proposed by PMC. Metro Line 3 (Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar through Wakad) expected to begin operations in April. Following public demand for extending Metro Line 3 from Hinjewadi to Khadakwasla, PMC submitted request to MahaMetro for DPR of the Wakad–Shewalewadi corridor via Katraj. PMC Chief Engineer Dinkar Gojare stated the Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Pune has been prepared by MahaMetro; feasibility of proposed corridor must first be verified within this plan. If found feasible in CMP, next steps include site visits and DPR preparation for the proposed metro route. Extension aims to improve connectivity in rapidly developing areas.
